MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY

It's MONDAY! Are you ready for another week? Gonna kick some tuchus and take names? Motivation. Interesting word. How does a person start to be motivated? Why be motivated? There are so man different theories on motivation psychology. Each has its own place in learning. If you want to read up on the different theories, go for it!

But what is motivation? Webster defines it as:

1a: the act or process of motivating. some students need motivation to help them through school.b: the condition of being motivated. employees who lack motivation

2: a motivating force, stimulus, or influence: INCENTIVE, DRIVE, the Old Testament heroes added religious motivation to the waging of war— Richard Humble. The fear of failure was the motivation for his achievements.

Three other ways to look at/ reinforce motivation:

‘Motivation is driving force which stimulates an individual to initiate and sustain a behavior.’

‘Motivation is a biological, social, or psychological state that drives a person towards a specific action’.

‘Motivation is a desire that fuels an individual to perform or continue an action based on needs and wants of the individual’.

As Ziglar says: "People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing – that's why we recommend it daily." Pretty "heady" stuff, ain't it?! Everyone is motivated by different things. Understanding what motivates you can make the difference between success and failure. Man, you have to work at it on a DAILY basis. It is hard to sustain. I don't know if any of you are bakers, but it's like taking care of a sourdough starter, it has to be fed daily. BUT, and I love this analogy, BUT you have to throw away part of the starter to keep it alive and growing. Kind of like letting go of the past. You've had some successes, and failures, in your past. IF you ONLY focus on them, you ain't going to grow. Let me repeat that: IF YOU DON'T LET GO OF YOUR PAST, YOU AIN'T GONNA GROW!

Until Tomorrow!
